vintage my way

I've just been thinking about vintage and how people
wear it, lately. I personally like to take a beautiful vintage
piece and tart it up with a bit of colour. I also like to mix
in a bit of thrift, a bit of designer, a bit of a catwalk-
inspired look, and I cannot go past a KMart bargain.

How do you wear your vintage?

lazy sunday

Photo shoot with Emily, the ex-battery chicken who now lives
with me, to educate people about International Respect Day for
Chickens Day on Friday May 4th. Please don't buy caged eggs.
Emily, and her sister May, were cage-chickens and take it from
them, it was a torturous existence. They are happier now, being
free-range ladies. Please always buy cage free eggs.

Gorgeous, fellow-blogger Donna enjoyed the hair-bow I
made myself seen here so much, I made her one to wear
in the colour of her choice to her upcoming wedding reception.
I hope she likes it.

Lazed around with the cats and pugs in front of the heater.
Here is the real Tallulah Porkchop using one of her toys
as a very comfy pillow. Aint she the cutest???

uses for holey tights

I like to be as environmentally friendly as possible, hence I'm
always trying to repurpose stuff. I have a cupboard in my laundry,
full of old cotton knickers I can use to polish stuff, old towels for
drying the pugs after baths, and I have a huge tangled ball of tights
that have been breeding over the years and I have not used a
single pair... until now. Thanks to an article by Jo Walker in this
months Frankie mag for the following, fantastic tips.

* Cut off a leg and use as a bag to wash your lingerie in.

* Cut widthways like calamari and use as hair ties.

* Fill one foot with oats, lavender, chamomile, herbs or rose
petals, tie off and toss in your bath for a delicious soak.

* Chop down into socks.

* Stuff a leg with potpurri, tie off with ribbon and pop
in your drawer to keep your clothes smelling sweet.
Lavender, mint or cedar chips will keep the moths away.

* As a lens filter onyour camera for a dreamy look.

* Make toys or pillows and fill with old tights.

* Stuff in the toes of shoes, so they keep their shape.

* As an onion keeper: pop in an onion, tie off, another onion,
tie off; keep in a dark place; cut onions off and use as needed.

spotted outside my work

This is Mr Wiggles. He's 15-years-old and rides
in his mum's (sheepskin-lined) basket on the front
of her bicycle. It's hard to see, but he is wearing
a fetching argyle sweater - handsome thing.

pinup shoot booked

I have a pinup shoot coming up in a couple of weeks time and
I'M VERY EXCITED. The gorgeous and ridiculously talented
Cheech Sanchez will be behind the lens and the fabulous Miss
Rock'n'Roll Sweetheart will be in charge of hair and makeup,
so there's no doubt, I will be as glam as! If any Victorian
pinup babes are interested, get in touch  with Cheech here.

Above photos all by Cheech Sanchez, photographer, art-director
and stylist extraordinaire, who also happens to have not one, but
two, Miss Pinup Australia titles under her sequinned belt.

frankie winner

monday mish mash post

Look at my hair? Could it be any flatter? Note to self: add a bit of volume.
It's going to be 16 degress tomorrow, it was 27 degrees just last week. Crazy!
Tights: Columbine, vintage blouse: thrifted, vintage pinafore: etsy, vintage shoes: etsy.

Gratuitous photo of Ziggy inserted above. One of the ups of
winter is that the cats spend lots more cuddle time inside. :D

I had a wonderful time learning how to make a hat from scratch on the
weekend. I've started the ball rolling re getting myself a hat block made,
so that I can start making little vintage-style half hats that you just can't
get anymore. Then open a 'lil etsy store. So many ideas.

Medium Term Goals

* Do a millinery short course to learn how to make button hats/berets.

* Kick off our IVF treatment with Melbourne IVF
(we were formerly with Queensland IVF).

* Squeeze in one more tattoo before we start the IVF treatment
(will prob have to wait six months before harvesting eggs etc)

* Have a photoshoot with the newsest, most fabulous pinup
photographer on the block Cheech-O-Rama.

Who has some goals? Wanna share?

millinery course, day two

Last night I pre-made the flowers for my hat.
Look Mum, I sewed!
I made this from a flat bit of straw!
These are all the steps I took.
Now for the fun bit...
I start pinning on my design.
The whole design, pinned on.
On a foam head.
From the side.
Now I have to hand-sew it all on.
Tah-dah! The finished product.
From the side.
And the front.
Then I packed up my little sewing box, and went home.
