on inspiration

My inspiration comes in ebbs and flows - sometimes I'm scribbling
down my ideas so I don't forget them, and other times I'm totally
sapped for ideas. Here's a short list of where I find my inspiration.

Travel - Be it international, interstate, or another city - I find living
for a short time in a different location the catalyst for new ideas.

Time off work - I find a weekend isn't enough to get off the treadmill
of daily life. But if I have even just a week off, or if I'm lucky, a month
off work, I can relax and let my mind wander to different places.

Creative projects - I love joining in projects like a Photo a Day,
which I will be doing this September. It keeps my mind creatively,
engaged, challenging me to come up with mini-artwork of art, daily.

Indulge in nostalgia - I always get excited when I start talking to
someone my age, or a sibling about what we used to do as kids,
the toys we'd play with, the games we would invent, TV, music...
it always sparks my imagination, "Why don't we do this anymore?"

Organise something - a dinner party, a fund-raiser, a clothes-swap.
The act of thinking how I will do something and outlining all the finer
details in my head, always start the balls rolling. It is amazing what
you can achieve when you put one foot in front of the other, and it
is big fun giving and event your own flavour.

Does anyone else have any hot tips on unleashing inspiration?

weekend thrifts

I went thrifting at Savers over the w/e and got a vintage booty of delights.
A gorgeous pair of red and blue shoes, a fabulous blue dress, and
a green dress that looks so hot on, I can hardly stand it.
In the background is a lovely A-line skirt that I'm wearing today.

granny chic home overhaul

Above (left to right): thrifted vintage bed throw,
thrifted crochet blanket, vintage sheet set from ebay.

I moved out of home at 20-years-old. The same applies for my partner.
When we moved in together, some 10 years later, we had aquired all
manner of bits and bobs. I've spent the past year slowly getting rid
of the old, ugly Ikea stuff and replacing it with fabulous, thrifted pieces.
I'm now up to redecorating the bedroom and the bathroom.

Above: four vintage pillow cases I bought from ebay.

What I need to source for the bedroom:

Thrifted prints for the walls
Vintage bed sheets to to make new curtains
Vintage/thrifted doona covers

Above: a vintage enamel cup on my etsy favourties

What I need to find for the bathroom:

Thrifted prints for the walls
Shabby chic sower curtain (poss vintage bed sheet to make it myself)
New towels and bath mats to complement colour scheme
Make new set of window curtains from bed sheet in top photo
Vintage enamel cup to store toothbrushes etc

house plant styling

I've been busy changing up our home, recently.
I mentioned that we needed more house plants.

I was surfing The Selby last night and clocked the below
pic and was immediately inspired to create the above  plants,
in their plastic pots on thrifted, floral bone china saucers.
Plants from Bunnings; saucers from Savers.

cupcake day

In August, schools and workplaces across Australia bake animal-themed
goodies and all the proceeds go to the RSPCA. At my workplace we
baked like fiends - I made big bunny cookies. We decided that we
would donate out proceeds to a smaller animal shelter, Animal Aid in Coldstream.
We made just under $500 - go team!

just ordered my new bag

I FINALLY ordered my first Cambridge Satchel.
I've wanted one for ages and I need a new bag, so why not?
I chose the pink. It was hard. I was tossing up between
metallic and fluro... but I think this colour will see me
through years and the others may date. I even got some
embossing done in silver, it says "Button", which is what
my other half calls me. It is actually a gift from  my other
half - I am a very, very lucky girl. :)

patent t-bars

I'm sporting my new Rubi patent t-bars I bought for $10 (they're
last seasons colour). I snapped up two pair and immediately regretted
the purchase - as we all know, the more $, the more comfortable.
Not so. They are $10 of cute, comfy shoe. I'm now a convert.

I have my eye on a few pairs.
