making vintage clip-ons wearable

I love, and have an amazing collection of, vintage earrings.
But the clip-ons KILL ME. I can't wear them for 30 minutes.

So I came up with a fabulous idea.

Enter the glue and the earring posts from ebay.

I took all the vintage earrings off their nasty clip-on backs.

Added a dab of glue and attached earrings posts, instead.

Ta-dah! Expect to see me wearing loads of vintage earrings. :)

kitty-sitting

Some followers may remember this post. Well Oreo, who has been renamed Friday, has come to stay for a bit while his mummies are in Thailand on holidays. He is fitting in very nicely/making himself at home, although I'm not sure he remembers ever living here.

And if anyone was wondering, Tulip is well and happy in her forever home too. They kept the name Tulip, which is great, because I think it really suits her. Happy endings. :)

my friend's mum's dress

One day, one of my colleagues was wearing an amazing dress
and I told her as such. A few days later she bought it in for me
as a gift, as she felt it didn't suit her. I re-elasticised the waist and
ta-dah! I believe her mum made this dress in the 1950s. Isn't it fab?

new watch thanks to murphy's law

A few weeks ago I lost my lovely silver watch. I looked and I waited. Two weeks later, when it hadn't turned up, I bought myself a new rose gold one. So, of course, as Murphy would have it, my silver one was found behind a curtain by my other half, before my rose gold one even turned up in the post. So now I have two!

I'm obsessed Q&Q watches. They are made by Citizen, are super-reasonable in price and wear really well. I discovered them a couple of years ago while searching for a new watch. I like smaller, vintage-looking watches and I think they have a great range. I buy mine from ebay and search under "Citizen ladies watch".

post request: how to get a bargain velvet dress

Below: Recent ebay purchases

I've had lots of queries and about my velvet dress bargain-nabbing, so I thought I would od a post on it. I really don't do anything special... I search ebay and etsy for "vintage velvet dress". I don't REALLY bother with the super-expensive ones, it's kind of a game to see how cheap I can get them.

Check out the above copy-and-past table of my latest ebay purchases. There are LOADS of ace dresses out there, you just have to be patient. I've bought a cupboard-full this winter for next to nothing, and I've not been disappointed once.

Also, I'm more than happy to buy an '80s does '40s dress. A quater of the price and just as pretty (and will probably last a lot longer).

You see the third item down (please forgive the book purchase in there)? I bought it for $9.95 (plus $7.00 postage). The picture of it was pretty shitty, but the seller described the dress as "stunning", so I took a punt and boy did it pay off. See below, it got 221 votes when I posted it on Chictopia. Not bad.

When it comes to etsy, if it is cheap, I buy-it-now, otherwise I just sit on it and put it in my favourites. Sellers are always having fabulous sales, so if I really wnat something, I buy it at the cheapest price.

Any questions, please fire away.
