giving a 45-year-old chair new life

For my beloved's birthday, her mum is paying for a very special chair
to be re-upholstered. We went into Shamrock Furniture in Edithvale
which specialises in '50s, '60s and '70s furniture yesterday to see if
we could start the ball rolling. So very exciting.

This is "the chair". It belonged to Heather's late-father, Don, who
passed away 40 years ago, so it has great sentimental value. It's
now Heather's but is in quite a state of disrepair. The chair was
purchased in the mid-sixties.

Above and below are a couple of examples of the work they do at
Shamrock Furniture. Derek is coming over to look at/quote/pick up
the chair on Tuesday night and we have to have our fabric choice
made by then. Stay tuned to see the end result. I can hardly wait.

  1. What a great idea for a present! I love that the chair with all it's sentiment is given a new life :) Can't wait to see the results x

  2. That's so exciting! I have been obsessing over mid-century lamps lately. So good.

  3. Oh what a great idea. I can't wait to see how it turns out. Those example of works are stunning!!

  4. Oh I adore old furniture. I like this chair, and great idea you have...

  5. Cant wait to see the finished product! There would be so many cool choices it would take me day to decide.

  6. Ohhh! My mither re-covered her old sofa and it is AMAZING the new lease of life it has so I appreciate how exciting this is! :) Enjoy! x

  7. My other half re-upholsters chairs like this - I must do a blog post on them! Your chair will look so nice when it is done...completely different, but all the more special because of the sentimental value...can't wait to see it! :))

  8. Oh I bet it looks beautiful once it's recovered, what a special gift to give such a sentimental piece a fresh makeover :) can't wait to see it finished (hopefully you share)

  9. Oh how exciting! Nothing feels better than newly upholstered furniture.

  10. It's going to be gorgeous, especially with the fabric you blogged about in a later post! Kitties are gonna take over ... you realise that don't you? ;)) xo
